Learning objectives

Knowledge

Students who have passed the module should be able to

  • Account for upstream bioprocessing principles for cell line cultures
  • Describe pharmaceutical production pipelines
  • Explain automatization processes in biotechnology
  • Account for mechanistic batch growth description
  • Describe upscaling procedures for industrial use

Skills

  • Establish and calculate parameters describing cultivation performance of cells
  • Perform biochemical and microbiological tests in the laboratory in a safe way
  • Handle experimental work with cells, cultivate and analyze them in a suitable way across common lab scales, evaluate and use appropriate protective measures, work with sterile techniques, use relevant tools and sources of information for lab work and data analysis, and dispose of waste according to regulations

Competences

  • Utilize knowledge on applied cultivation of cell lines and microorganisms and automated processes for applied and industrially oriented applications.
