PURPOSE
That the student acquires knowledge, skills and competencies to develop digital solutions that integrate technical implementation, business conditions and human information practices. The project is carried out at the intersection of these three disciplines with a focus on translating complex needs into a digital solution that creates value.

JUSTIFICATION
Digital solutions create the greatest value when they are developed in an interaction between technological possibilities, business goals and an understanding of the role of information in organizational and human practice. In this project module, the students must work with the three disciplines of the education in equal interaction to understand the needs of organizations, analyze information flows and use technologies in a way that solves a problem. The project is intended to sharpen the students' reflection in and on the problem-based integration of technical design, human insight and business analysis.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The student must be able to document knowledge and understanding of:

  • central concepts and methods within technology development, business development and information studies, including,
    • design principles, quality criteria, system architecture and scaling considerations in technology development
    • organizational and market parameters for IT systems' contribution to business development, value evaluation of IT systems, and the economic and strategic dimensions in business development.
    • user involvement, practice studies, information infrastructure and technology understanding in information studies
  • connections and dependencies between technological design choices, business strategy and information needs

Skills

The student must be able to: 

  • analyze organizational, technological and information needs in relation to a specific problem
  • apply theories or methods from all three subject areas to develop a digital solution to the problem
  • argue for the design of a digital solution in relation to business goals, information use and technical possibilities
  • evaluate the quality of a digital solution in relation to all three subject areas

 

Competences

The student must be able to:

  • identify and formulate problems at the intersection of technology, business and information
  • plan and implement a problem-oriented development process that integrates the three disciplines
  • assess and put the development work into perspective in relation to both technical solutions, organizational needs and information quality
