Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The purpose of the bachelor's project is for the student to document competencies in applying economic theories and methods while working on a specific academic topic. The topic for the bachelor's project is chosen by the student and approved by the study board.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

After completing the module, the student is expected to have knowledge of:

  • The central economic theories, models, and concepts relevant to the chosen problem.
  • Relevant quantitative and/or qualitative methods (including statistical and econometric methods) and their theoretical and epistemological foundations necessary to analyse the problem.
  • The broader societal and economic-historical context in which the problem is situated.
  • How economic theory and methods are embedded in an epistemological context, including the assumptions and limitations of the models.

Skills

After completing the module, the student is expected to have the skills to:

  • Identify, formulate, and delimit a relevant, well-defined economic problem independently.
  • Select, justify, and apply relevant economic theories and methods (including possible data analysis) to analyse the chosen problem.
  • Critically assess the theoretical, methodological, and empirical basis of the analysis, including data and sources, and reflect on the strengths and limitations of the analysis.
  • Derive and justify conclusions based on the analysis, evaluate the results, and discuss potential implications (for example for economic policy).
  • Prepare a learning portfolio based on experiences from the entire bachelor’s programme.

Competences

After completing the module, the student is expected to have the competencies to:

  • Plan and carry out academic projects in which central issues in economics are addressed from the idea phase to the implementation of proposed solutions.
  • Identify their own learning needs and structure their learning in different learning environments.
  • Theoretically and practically analyse a relevant economic problem and apply this knowledge to make well-founded scientific and practical decisions related to the problem independently and in teams.
