Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The aim of the project is to support participants in developing their scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) competences whilst implementing and evaluating the teaching and learning change processes towards PBL.

Participants will develop skills and competences on theory of science, and educational research, and quality assurance systems, and to what extent these support educational change processes.

Learning objectives

Skills

  • Revise and implement a PBL design.
  • Design an educational evaluation protocol according to the educational purposes of the PBL design and using SoTL principles and educational research theory.
  • Collect empirical evidence to evaluate the implementation of PBL design according to evaluation protocol and scientific standards of educational research.
  • Critically discuss the results based on limitations and propose recommendations to the PBL design and educational evaluation protocol.
  • Discuss the role of the teacher as a reflective practitioner and to what extent the evaluation of the PBL design impacts his/her own professional identity, teaching philosophy and values.

Competences

  • Be able to design, implement and evaluate a PBL design using SoTL principles, whilst use empirical evidence to reflect critically in one’s educational practice and the associated decision-making processes.
  • Being able to present and communicate the results from PBL evaluation to peers and other institutions’ academic staff, whilst adhering to scientific standards of written and oral communication.

Type of instruction

Self-study, self-organized, team-based project work supported by facilitation, thematic workshops, online study group work and seminars. Please refer to paragraph 17 of the curriculum about the structure and content of the program.
