Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The aim of this elective project module is to support participants in developing competences implementing redesigns of their courses based on PBL principles in the context of K12 education. K12 refers to educational level up to 12th grade of schooling, equivalent to high school or similar.

Learning objectives

Skills

  • Discuss and critically reflect the benefits and challenges of PBL in context of K12 education.
  • Revise and implement a PBL design.
  • Self-evaluate and document the implementation processes from the lenses of the student learning and your professional learning goals.
  • Discuss and reflect about transition from lecturer to facilitator and to what extent the implementation of the PBL design impacted your own teaching philosophy and values.
  • Critically reflect and problematize the implementation process of PBL designs in K12 education, using contemporary learning theories and research outcomes.
  • Propose improvements to the PBL designs.

Competences

  • Being able to critically self-evaluate, reflect and communicate on one’s role as a facilitator of learning in a problem-oriented, collaborative and student-centred learning environment.

Type of instruction

Self-study, self-organized, team-based project work supported by facilitation, thematic workshops, online study group work and seminars. Please refer to paragraph 17 of the curriculum about the structure and content of the program.
