Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The module provides a theoretical analysis of the relations between social and cultural perspectives on contemporary art as a prerequisite for creating democratic, sustainable spaces for teaching and learning. The focus on critical analyses and promotion of a complex approach to investigation of central concepts, theories and topic relate to contemporary art and pedagogy.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

Through the module, the student must gain knowledge and understanding of:

  • Current social, cultural, and political issues and how they relate to art education, contemporary art, and digital visual communication, specifically in the Nordic context
  • Advanced theoretical literature on society, culture, and politics, and its application to professional practice

Skills

The student must through the module acquire skills in:

  • Describing and analysing social, cultural, and political aspects of their professional practice through advanced research literature
  • Engaging with advanced theoretical literature

Competences

The student must through the module acquire competences for:

  • Contextualizing professional practices in art education and digital visual communication within social, cultural, and political frameworks
  • Utilizing social, cultural, and political theory in the further development of their professional practice
