Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

This module provides knowledge of diverse scientifically based methods for art educational practice with individuals, groups of people and communities in institutional and non-institutional contexts. Discussions of pedagogical principles for teaching and learning will make the students capable of making ethical, responsible and respectful decision when working with art pedagogical and art-based approaches in different contexts.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

Through the module, the student must gain knowledge and understanding of:

  • Historical and contemporary theories and practices of art education and community-based contemporary art specifically in the Nordic countries
  • Cultural and social diversity in art pedagogical practice and contemporary art

Skills

The student must through the module acquire skills in:

  • Defining, analysing, and rethinking methods in art pedagogical practices and community-based contemporary art
  • Theorizing approaches to art pedagogical practice with advanced research literature from art education and contemporary art
  • Planning an independent pedagogical project in informal and non-formal environments

Competences

The student must through the module acquire competences for:

  • Working educationally with individuals, groups of people, and communities, particularly in informal and non-formal environments
  • Making ethical, responsible and respectful decisions when working in art educational and community-based approaches in transdisciplinary settings

Oral exam based on a project
Oral exam based on a synopsis group assignment.
The examination is a conversation between the student(s) and the examiner and internal examiner based on a synopsis produced individually or in a group. The written work will be considered the shared responsibility of the group. Students will be examined and assessed on the basis of the synopsis, and one combined grade will be awarded each student for the synopsis and the oral performance.
