Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The purpose of this module is to allow students a unique opportunity to explore and conduct academic work on recent challenges. The module aims at students who want to test and extend the boundaries of economics and business administration within specific subject areas covered in earlier modules but expand their knowledge, competences, and skills in applying research insights on specific challenges within a given field. The nature of this module provides an opportunity to better prepare students for the master’s thesis writing. 

The module result in a written project where the student(s) explicate the knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired. The student is appointed a supervisor within the given subject area of economics and business administration, who will assist students by providing advice and suggestions throughout the preparation of the project.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary knowledge on:

  • a relevant and contemporary problem within economics and business administration.
  • how to apply relevant methods to analyse the chosen problem theoretically and practically.
  • how to plan, execute, and manage a process that leads to a written project. 

Skills

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary skills in:

  • framing and analysing a relevant and contemporary problem within economics and business administration.
  • applying relevant theories and methods to address the investigated problem.
  • constructing arguments about how the empirical and/or theoretical findings adds to the economics and business administration literature.

Competences

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary competences in:

  • accessing relevant and contemporary economics and business administration literature in a structured way.
  • presenting and discussing literature and data in accordance with the relevant scientific principles.
  • applying relevant knowledge, theories, and skills in economics and business administration to be able to analyse, conceptualize and discuss the issues addressed in the project, and engage in a academic discussion.
