Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The objective of the module is to introduce students to the process of data analysis. In this module, students will learn to formulate a question, collect appropriate data and conduct data analysis to answer data driven questions. They will learn to run an exploratory data analysis, in addition to organising the data for analysis. Students will use one or more of the statistical methods learnt in class in the main analysis of their project. A correct interpretation of the results along with its presentation of business insights is important. Students in this module will be provided with datasets and the opportunity to work with statistical software.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary knowledge on:

  • Quantitative data sources relevant for business law students
  • Statistical methods to extract managerial insight from the quantitative data
  • Application of quantitative analysis in the business and policy context  

Skills

  • Identifying relevant sources of data in relation to business and policy
  • Analysing data guided by statistical theory and using statistical software
  • Interpretation and presentation of statistical results

Competences

  • Independently formulate research questions for quantitative analysis
  • Conducting statistical analysis and reflecting critically on validity and implications of results
  • Visualizing and communication results from quantitative analysis

Steudents are expected to physically show up to class to participate in group and project work.
