Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The purpose of the module is to expand the students’ competencies within one or more of the program’s core areas.

Through the module, the student will, based on a defined and self-chosen theoretical and/or empirical socio-economic issue, develop the ability to independently initiate and carry out academic and interdisciplinary collaboration. This includes taking professional responsibility for their own academic development and being able to argue and engage in discussion at an advanced scientific level.

As part of the module, the student will be assigned a supervisor and can choose and collaborate with one or more organisations.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The aim is that, after completing the module, the student will have knowledge of:

  • Scientific issues within the field of socioeconomics and be able to identify them.
  • Economic theories relevant to the issue.
  • Socioeconomic issues and be able to reflect on them based on a scientific foundation.

Skills

The aim is that, after completing the module, the student will have the skills to:

  • Select and apply relevant methods and tools to generate knowledge about a socioeconomic issue in collaboration with external parties, including a supervisor, from either an empirical or theoretical starting point.
  • Select relevant theory, method, and data, and develop solution models based on a scientific foundation.
  • Prepare a written and oral presentation of the project's issue, method, analysis, and conclusions in a scientific, clear, and correct language.

Competences

The aim is that, after completing the module, the student will have the competencies to:

  • Identify and formulate objectives within socioeconomics and be able to present and discuss the contextual factors that influence the realization of these objectives.
  • Independently initiate and carry out professional and interdisciplinary collaboration and assume professional responsibility.
  • Take independent responsibility for their own academic development.
