Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The aim of the module is to provide the student(s) with a more comprehensive opportunity to analyze a specific socio-economic issue that addresses existing and/or emerging trends within socio-economics, chosen by the student(s).

The student(s) may base the project on other modules from the program or independently identify an empirical and/or theoretical issue, which is addressed at an advanced scientific level, using relevant economic literature and data. The module may be carried out in collaboration with one or more organizations, and throughout the module, students will be assigned a supervisor.

The project work must address a socio-economic issue at an advanced level with a theoretical and/or empirical basis.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The aim is that after the module the student has knowledge of:

  • scientific issues within the socio-economic field and the ability to identify these issues as well as the relevant economic theories for the issue at hand.
  • the advanced learning styles and processes that motivate personal learning, both individually and/or in group contexts.

Skills

The aim is that after the module the student has skills to:

  • applying economic theory, methods, and tools to specific issues from an empirical or theoretical standpoint.
  • choosing and applying relevant methods and tools to generate knowledge about an issue within a socio-economic context, in collaboration with external parties, including a supervisor, from an empirical or theoretical standpoint.
  • preparing a written and oral presentation of the project’s problem statement, method, analysis, and conclusions in a scientifically clear and accurate language.

Competences

The aim is that after the module the student has the competencies in:

  • identify and formulate objectives within socio-economics and be able to present and discuss the contextual factors that affect the realization of these objectives.
  • develop understanding and solutions to a central socio-economic issue based on scientific analyses.
  • independently initiate and conduct professional and interdisciplinary collaboration and assume professional responsibility.
