Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The module aims to expand the student’s competencies within one or more of the core areas of the program and is expected to be carried out in close collaboration with a relevant research environment engaged in socio-economics.

Throughout the module, the student will, based on a self-selected and defined theoretical and/or empirical socio-economic issue, develop competencies to independently initiate and conduct academic and interdisciplinary collaboration. This includes assuming professional responsibility for their own academic development and being able to argue and discuss on a scientifically advanced level.

The student will be assigned a supervisor during the module and may choose to collaborate with one or more organizations.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The aim is that after the module the student has knowledge of:

  • scientific issues within the socio-economic field and the ability to identify these issues.
  • Tthe economic theories relevant to the specific issue.
  • socio-economic issues and the ability to reflect on these from a scientific perspective.

Skills

The aim is that after the module the student has skills to:

  • choosing and applying relevant methods and tools to generate knowledge about a socio-economic issue, in collaboration with external parties, including a supervisor, from an empirical or theoretical standpoint.
  • selecting relevant theory, methods, and data, and developing solution models based on scientific reasoning.
  • preparing written and oral presentations of the project's issue, method, analysis, and conclusions in a scientific, clear, and accurate language.

Competences

The aim is that after the module the student has the competencies in:

  • identify and formulate objectives within socio-economics, and be able to present and discuss the contextual factors that influence the realization of these objectives.
  • independently initiate and conduct academic and interdisciplinary collaboration and take on professional responsibility.
  • take independent responsibility for their own academic development.
