Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The aim of the module is to provide the student with knowledge of and skills in the application of advanced econometric methods following the econometrics teaching in the bachelor's program.

The econometrics module at the master's level focuses on event history analysis using register data and its application in analyzing socio-economic issues. The module introduces the student to relevant econometric methods, tools, and exercises. Furthermore, through the module, the student will gain an understanding of how to use the register database and apply various survival models, including Cox regression models.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary knowledge on:

  • the structure of the Danish register database and how it is constructed.
  • the advantages and challenges of using this type of register database.
  • the challenges of censoring and how this still holds value when using event history analysis.

Skills

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary skills in:

  • demonstrating insight into various methods for event history analysis, including Cox regression.
  • understanding and critically evaluating the advantages and disadvantages associated with this type of econometric analysis.
  • analyzing event histories using longitudinal econometric methods, including survival analysis and Cox regression analysis.

Competences

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary competences in:

  • demonstrate insight into the possibilities of the Danish registers and assess whether the chosen empirical approach satisfactorily solves the problem to be analyzed.
  • conduct sampling, evaluate empirical econometric studies, and understand longitudinal thinking.
  • use relevant software and current research to solve empirical problems and interpret results from computer output at a high academic level and be able to present analysis results in accurate language.
