Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • Have knowledge of fundamental principles and strategies of sensing technologies, data analysis & processing, which could be used in both traditional and emerging offshore energy systems such as Wind and Wave Energy systems, Power-to-X systems, Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage, Energy Islands, etc.
  • Have knowledge of fundamental principles and strategies of control and automation in offshore energy systems

Skills

  • Be able to define and analyze scientific problems involving offshore energy systems/subsystems
  • Be able to analyze methods for the design of different sensing and data processing methods and/or digital filter design
  • Be able to analyze methods for the design of control solutions such as sensor-control mapping, internal model control, control of time-delay systems, combined feedforward & feedback control, or model predictive control.
  • Be able to relate the methods to applications in the industry

Competences

  • Be able to be a part of professional and interdisciplinary development work within offshore energy systems
  • Be able to apply selected design processes of sensing and data processing in offshore energy systems
  • Be able to apply selected control method for handling automation design and implementation

Type of instruction

The course is taught by a mixture of lectures, workshops, exercises, mini projects or self-studies including e-learning.

Extent and expected workload

Since it is a 5 ECTS course module, the work load is expected to be 150 hours for the student
