PURPOSE
The module aims to give the student a general understanding of processes for the design and evaluation of user interfaces. Overall processes for implementing user-centred design are introduced as well as general design principles for functional design for human cognition when using IT systems. In addition, basic methods for evaluating usability in graphical user interfaces are introduced, including planning, implementation and data analysis

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The student must acquire knowledge of:

  • fundamental concepts for human-machine interaction, including human cognition, usability and user experience
  • basic user-centered design processes and methods for designing and evaluating user interfaces,
  • principles of user interface design

Skills

The student must be able to:

  • apply basic design principles and guidelines for functional design,
  • carry out a user-centred process with a focus on functional and user-friendlydesign of user interfaces,
  • explain basic theories within human-machine interaction,
  • explain the activities of a user-centred process,
  • explain the activities involved in evaluating a user interface

Competences

  • design and argue for a functional design in a user-centred process,
  • apply basic techniques and methods to evaluate user interfaces

Type of instruction

The teaching is organized according to the general teaching methods for the education, cf. §17

Extent and expected workload

The student is expected to spend 30 hours per ECTS, which for this activity means 150 hours.
