PURPOSE
This course module aims to provide the student with the knowledge, methods and skills to study users and interact with them through a Co-design process. User study methods are introduced and trained, which respectively focus on what users do, use, say, create and think, as well as the physical and ergonomic factors in relation to use and user. Thereby, the student must gain competence in designing for the user's recognized and unrecognized needs, with respect for the user and their context and culture

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • must have knowledge of Co-design's potentials, limitations and directions, ranging from the actor perspective to physical factors

Skills

  • must be able to explain various user-oriented methods, including their scope and benefits
  • must be able to perform and use observation to collect data on user behavior
  • must be able to conduct and use interviews and other suitable methods and tools for collecting user data
  • must be able to structure collected user data and use this as design material with a view to clarifying needs

Competences

  • must be able to plan and carry out CO design activities, as well as include information about use as a basis for the design solution
  • must be able to plan and organize a co-design process that extensively involves users and focuses on their needs

Type of instruction

The teaching is organized in accordance with the general teaching methods for the education, cf. section 17.

Extent and expected workload

The student is expected to spend 30 hours per ECTS, which for this activity means 150 hours.
