PURPOSE
In this course, the student acquires basic programming skills.

RATIONALE
Computers are, regardless of the field, one of the most important tools for problem-solving today. Therefore, the student must gain knowledge of fundamental computer science concepts in a general form, enabling them to solve problems using programming.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The student must understand the fundamental concepts within the following theories and methods:

  • Development environment and compilation
  • Data types and variables
  • Expressions
  • Control structures
  • Abstractions, e.g., functions and procedures
  • Data structures
  • Input/output
  • Simple algorithms (e.g., sorting and searching)
  • Error handling
  • Modularization
  • Testing of programs

Skills

After the course, the student should be able to:

  • write, execute, and test programs that incorporate the aforementioned fundamental concepts in their solutions
  • use correct technical terminology

Competences

After the course, the student can independently and in collaboration with others implement a program as a solution to a defined task.

Type of instruction

The type of instruction is organised in accordance with the general instruction methods of the programme, cf. § 17.

Extent and expected workload
