PURPOSE:
To enable the student to gain knowledge about problem-oriented project work and specifically to analyze and define a problem within data analysis, as well as describe the problem in an application context with an emphasis on either a technical or social context.

RATIONALE:
Many companies today have data stored in spreadsheets. Spreadsheets have some functionality for data analysis. This project will test the possibilities and limitations. The project aims to provide insight into data analysis on a realistic dataset. As with all projects in this program, problem-based learning in groups is employed.

The project work also focuses on gaining early experience with problem-oriented project work in groups to build competence for the P1 project.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • The student must be able to understand and explain the theories and methods used in the project.

Skills

  • communicate the analysis and definition of a problem within data analysis using spreadsheets
  • communicate the project’s considerations, work results, and work processes in writing, graphically, and orally
  • describe the experiences gained from the group’s project work

Competences

  • define a problem within data analysis
  • describe and analyze a problem, as well as choose and defend a problem statement
  • propose and argue for possible solutions to a formulated problem

Type of instruction

Project work

Extent and expected workload

The student is expected to spend 30 hours per ECTS, which for this activity means 150 hours.

- prepare a report, and
- prepare a process analysis.

After submitting the project report, a feedback session will be held where several P0 project groups present their experiences with the project group’s work process.
