Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • have knowledge of elementary concepts in IT security and privacy protection
  • have knowledge of fundamental models for IT security and privacy protection
  • be familiar with techniques for data de-identification and re-identification, including pseudonymization and anonymization, as well as their strengths and weaknesses
  • have knowledge of basic cryptological concepts and techniques, with a particular focus on cryptographic techniques for privacy protection

Skills

  • be able to perform elementary (risk) analysis of security and privacy protection for a simple system
  • be able to propose relevant and effective measures to reduce vulnerability to attacks (including attacks on privacy protection) for a simple system based on security and/or privacy analysis
  • be able to explain the underlying theoretical models used in a given security analysis

Competences

  • be able to acquire additional knowledge and skills within the module’s subject area
  • be able to express oneself using correct terminology and conceptual framework from the module’s subject area
  • be able to argue for the necessity of (security) measures for a given application area and the consequences of lacking security for the same

Type of instruction

The type of instruction is organised in accordance with the general instruction methods of the programme, cf. § 17.

Extent and expected workload

The student is expected to spend 30 hours per ECTS, which for this activity means 150 hours.
