Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • gain knowledge about mobile application development, and experience using tools in the development of a mobile application to support a defined and well-defined activity, for example a work function, a service or an experience
  • understand and include the special circumstances that characterize a mobile application: the user is often in a mobile context, there are special screen and interaction options, as well as battery, processor, and communication limitations

Skills

  • use concepts and methods linked to mobile applications and services
  • establish and configure a tool for developing mobile applications
  • establish and use a tool for developing a concrete application that solves a problem
  • use the tool for testing and debugging program code
  • use any  other capabilities in the tool's SDK apply the tool's human interface guidelines in accordance with how the application should be used to solve a problem
  • download and run the program on a mobile device
  • argue for the choices made, including explaining how requirements,  technical solution, and users' needs are connected

Competences

After completing the project module, the student must be able to develop a concrete mobile application for a specific use, including

  • identify and utilize relevant technical options in a mobile SDK in connection with a specific case
  • develop test and debug program code
  • develop a mobile application that is runnable and demonstrable
  • reflect on choices made and development process

Type of instruction

The module is organized with seminars and workshops, where the students in groups of 2-4 develop a mobile application that solves a problem.

Extent and expected workload

The student is expected to spend 30 hours per ECTS, which for this activity means 300 hours.
