Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

This advanced writing course will focus on making use of what has been learned earlier about making good arguments, academic writing conventions and professional writing conventions to focus on the ways that persuasive writing can be utilized both within and beyond the university.

  • Selected theories, models and practices of persuasion
  • Selected types of persuasive writing
  • Selected evaluative tools to assess persuasive writing.

  • Writing to meet the conventions of multiple types of persuasive writing
  • Creating persuasive writing adapted for specific audiences and purposes.

Competences in:

  • Meeting expectations of specific writing styles, audiences and conventions
  • Adapting formatting and organisation of writing to match various audiences and purposes
  • Using English language both correctly and at an appropriately advanced level for the audience and purpose associated with the writing task.
