Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The purpose of Macroeconomics III is to provide students with a fundamental introduction to mainstream macroeconomic models, both qualitatively and more formally mathematically. As such, Macroeconomics III touches on short, medium, and long-term macroeconomic aspects, especially focusing on business cycles, structural GDP, unemployment issues, and economic growth problems.

Several of the module's theoretical conclusions are examined through data collection from digital databases. Additionally, students are introduced to digital simulation of the module's theoretical models using IT programs.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The aim is that the student, after the module, has knowledge of:

  • empirical facts about growth based on data collection.
  • the subject matter of modern macroeconomic theory.
  • models concerning economic growth.

Skills

The aim is that the student, after the module, has skills in:

  • analyzing the causes and consequences of business cycles, including focusing on adjustment processes from short to long term.
  • setting up and solving a model numerically through computer simulation.
  • setting up, analyzing, and critically discussing relevant economic policy measures to achieve macroeconomic balance both internally and externally using mainstream macroeconomic models.

Competences

The aim is that the student, after the module, has competencies to:

  • demonstrating a fundamental understanding of significant aspects of the interaction between various key macro markets.
  • demonstrating a fundamental understanding of central income formation models.

Exam

Prerequisite for enrollment for the exam

  • It is a condition for taking the exam that the student has submitted a written product.
