Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The module is based on knowledge achieved in the project module Design of thermal systems or similar.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • Have knowledge about the structure and design of flow machinery or other thermal system components used in thermal energy systems on a detailed component level
  • Have knowledge about the thermomechanical limitations due to dynamic effects of these systems on a detailed component level
  • Be able to understand scientific methods and theories in relation to the theme of the semester and be able to see the project in a larger whole
  • Have knowledge about the environmental conditions related to these technologies

Skills

  • Be able to perform analyses related to thermal flow systems or other thermal system components
  • Have attained experience with laboratory work or by using real measured data series related to machinery or other thermal system components
  • Be able to analyse and evaluate the found results from simulations and data from laboratory work or from the scientific literature related to flow machinery or other thermal system components

Competences

  • Be able to handle complex development oriented situations in study og work situations within the energy technical area with particular focus on thermal systems
  • Have the ability to take part in professional and interdisciplinary work with a professional approach within the energy technical area
  • Be able to identify own learning needs and structure learning in different environments in energy engineering
  • Have attained the ability to transfer academic knowledge and skills within thermal processes to a practical problem and process the problem

Type of instruction

Problem based and project organised work in groups with focus on self-critical reflection and proactive participation. The project may be discipline-oriented, interdisciplinary or part of a multidisciplinary project depending on project choice.

Extent and expected workload

Since it is a 15 ECTS project work, the work load is expected to be 450 hours for the student.
