Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The module is based on knowledge achieved in the modules Fundamental energy system physics and topology and Thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid dynamics or similar.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • Have knowledge about stationary digital modelling of general thermal cycles and energy systems
  • Be able to understand the topology of thermal cycles

Skills

  • Be able to use the general theory regarding systematic formulation of conservation equations for simulation of thermal systems and thermal system components using digital tools
  • Be able to evaluate operational parameters in thermal systems operating in steady state
  • Be able to design and simulate thermal systems using digital tools
  • Be able to estimate thermal and calorimetric properties in thermal systems

Competences

  • Have the ability to use the topic in interdisciplinary collaboration with other fields of research
  • Be able to evaluate the best suited methods of analysis in relation to simulation of thermal systems and be able to design and simulate thermal systems
  • Be able to analyse the result of simulations of thermal systems using digital tools.

Type of instruction

Lectures supplemented with self-study and/or study circles and possibly E-learning via digital platforms.

Extent and expected workload

Since it is a 5 ECTS course, the work load is expected to be 150 hours for the student.
