Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • Have knowledge and understanding within energy engineering concepts such as electricity production from sun, wind, wave, heat and waste to renewable fuels and electricity.
  • Have knowledge of and understanding of overall energy concepts and energy and heat balances and simple energy calculations
  • Have knowledge of and understanding of the basic structure of energy systems and their effect on society and the environment
  • Have knowledge of major energy machines such as pumps, turbines, heat exchangers, electrolysers, electrical machines and generators and their functions
  • Have knowledge of the basic aspects used in economic and environmental assessments
  • Have knowledge of handling energy, environment and finances in relation to national and international legislation
  • Have acquired knowledge of static and quasi-static, electric and magnetic fields, capacity and inductance

Skills

  • Be able to carry out basic energy and power calculations
  • Be able to assess environmental consequences in relation to the use of different energy resources and technologies
  • Be able to set up simple economic models and methods for basic energy systems
  • Be able to analyse static and quasi-static electric and magnetic fields and their propagation
  • Be able to use electro physics to determine electrical resistance, capacitance and inductance
  • Be able to use electro physics to calculate mechanical forces produced by electric and magnetic fields
  • Have skills in electric current, electric and magnetic fields as well as Ampere's law, Faraday's law, Lenz's law and Maxwell's equations and ferromagnetic materials

Competences

  • Acquire the terminology for the subject area
  • Be able to identify own learning needs and structure own learning within energy systems and electro physics

Type of instruction

Lectures, possibly supported by laboratory experiments and self-study including e-learning via digital platforms, etc.

Extent and expected workload

Since it is a 5 ECTS course, the work load is expected to be 150 hours for the student.
