Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The master’s thesis module gives the student knowledge, skills, and competences to initiate, conduct, and complete their master’s thesis. The student is offered supervision from both partner universities. The thesis module is focused on the thesis and the student’s research topic within the framework of the programme. The thesis can either be a pure theoretical and analytical project or it a theoretical and methodological practical solution. The student is offered supervision from both partner universities. The module comprises a seminar that address research methodological issues.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

Through the module, the student must gain knowledge and understanding of:

  • Advanced use of research methodologies in digital and visual communication and art education
  • Building and critically assessing new knowledge in academic research

Skills

The student must through the module acquire skills in:

  • Conducting and managing academic research in digital and visual communication and art education
  • Receiving, providing, and utilizing collegial feedback in research
  • Master thesis level academic writing

Competences

The student must through the module acquire competences for:

  • Independently formulating and conducting research projects in digital and visual communication and art education

The Master thesis is a written examination and will be evaluated on the basis of a Master’s thesis prepared by one or a number of students. If the Master's thesis is witten by more than one student, it must be indicated in the thesis which students have written which sections, as the thesis assessment is individual. The Master’s thesis must demonstrate that each student fulfils the objectives for the module stated above as regards knowledge, skills and competences. The Master’s thesis, including a one-two page summary in a foreign language (either Finnish or Danish), forms the basis of the assessment.
