Prerequisite for participation in the module

It is a mandatory prerequisite that every other module at the programme is passed prior to participating in the master’s thesis.

The Study Board can grant exemption if there are unusual circumstances, and the Study Board simultaneously assesses that the student has the academic prerequisites to be able to start the master’s thesis.

Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

In the master’s thesis, students will work on identifying, examining, analysing and reflecting on theoretical and practical problems that are closely related to the core professional competencies within management accounting and control. The student has the option to do this by collaborating with a company or organisation.

During this module, the student will be assigned an advisor and create a written report that illustrates critical and reflexive competencies related to problem-solving and developing arguments on an academic level within the domain of management accounting and control.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary knowledge on:

  • the subject area and understanding of how the thesis fits into the area.
  • identifying scientific issues and critically assess gathered scientific knowledge.
  • recognizing methods and theories specific to the academic disciple to analyze scientific problems.

Skills

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary skills to:

  • apply scientific theories and methods when working with a specific problem within management accounting and control.
  • analyze and discuss a problem scientifically within the subject area.
  • convey the research-based knowledge according to academic standards to both academic and non-academic colleagues.

Competences

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary competencies to:

  • independently manage and implement a long-term academic work- and development process that is complex and unpredictable and requires new solution models.
  • scientifically argue in writing and/or verbally (individually or as part of a team) to various target groups at an academic level.
  • take responsibility for own progress of academic skills and development of academic writing within management accounting and control.
