PURPOSE

The module aims to support students' practical experience of programming basic applications.

The student is part of a course where concepts, methods and techniques from the course "Introduction to Programming" are used to develop a running application. There will be a focus on programming a prototype, where special efforts will be made in the completion of a subset of the application. The prototype must contain functionality that performs processing of data that is stored in a database on the basis of e.g. input via the user interface. Data must also be able to be extracted from the database and presented in a user interface. The prototype thus involves a fully developed subset of an application with a functional and demonstrable connection between user interface, function layer and database layer.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • Must gain knowledge about how and why an application in practice is structured according to a layered architecture with well-defined responsibilities

  • Must gain knowledge about how to create a connection between the layers in the architecture

  • Must gain knowledge about which control structures, data types and data structures should be used for realizing a specific application

Skills

  • Must be able to structure an application in relation to a layered architecture

  • Must be able to connect the layers of the architecture

  • Must be able to use control structures, data types and data structures in realizing a specific application;

Competences

  • Must be able to argue for the choice of structure in the developed application and reflect on the advantages and disadvantages of this

  • Must be able to argue for the choice of control structures, data types and data structures in the developed application as well as reflect on disadvantages and benefits of this

Type of instruction

The teaching is organized in accordance with the general teaching methods for the education, cf. section 17.

Extent and expected workload

The student is expected to spend 30 hours per ECTS, which for this activity means 150 hours.
