Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The BA project will be completed during the sixth semester of the program. The BA project must demonstrate that the student is able to formulate, analyze, and process central issues within a defined subject area which represents the core of the program.

The topic of the BA project can be chosen freely within the dimension of the study program: language and discourse; culture and intercultural communication; and international political issues and relations. In choosing a project issue, students may use the project course module of the semester, Regional Studies, as the basis, or freely choose within the target areas of the program. The student must demonstrate the ability to communicate the results and the knowledge acquired in a correct and adequate manner in spoken and written English language.

The topic of the Bachelor project must be approved by the Board of Studies. The topic must be presented to the Board of Studies in the form of a brief problem formulation.

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • theories, methods, and practices within one or more of the study’s main fields: international history, language, society, and politics, international relations, globalization studies, or international organizations
  • the historical context and significance of one’s chosen area of research.

 

Skills

The student must attain

Skills in:

  • independently and creatively  identifying and delimiting a salient problem in a central field of international studies, or at the intersection between multiple fields
  • analyzing and assessing relevant theories and understandings of international organizations in a manner indicative of preparedness for study at the master’s level in a central field of international studies, or at the intersection between multiple fields
  • organizing relevant data and research material at a level indicative of preparedness for study at the master’s level in a central field of international studies, or at the intersection between multiple fields
  • using relevant digital resources and tools to conduct research and collect and analyze data in the at large field of international studies demonstrating a conversancy with digital and multimedia sources and their modes of integration into a research project.

Competences

The student must attain

Competencies in:

  • integrating individual and group interests and reflecting on group considerations and concerns in the course of addressing problems in central fields within international studies
  • describing reconciliation processes regarding complications, impasses, and problems in group processes or the process of intellectual refinement in the case of individual work 
  • proposing unique solutions  to problems organized around issues concerning international organizations in a manner and qualifying those solutions
  • identifying, reflecting on and qualifying choices of relevant theories and academic disciplines for addressing a defined problem concerning international studies, as well as proposing academically meaningful paths forward for further research in the thesis’ area(s)  
  • communicating ideas, arguments, and research results about a defined issue within the international studies field in an academic spoken and written English indicative of preparedness for master’s study or entry into professional life.

Master's thesis/final project
An oral examination based on the students’ written work, whether prepared individually or in cooperation with others. The group will be jointly responsible for the project report or other written work undertaken jointly. The project report constitutes the basis for the examination and assessment, and an overall assessment of the project and the oral performance will be made. At oral group examinations, the examination must be conducted in such a way that individual assessment of each individual student’s performance is ensured, cf. the Examination Order, section 4, subsection 2. The examination will take the form of a conversation between the student(s), the examiner and the censor on the basis of the project report written by the student(s).

The project report must be at least 20 pages and must not exceed 30 pages per student; individual reports must not exceed 40 pages.

During the examination, the student(s) must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and competencies in accordance with the learning objectives of the module. The prescribed examination duration is 20 minutes per student and 10 minutes per group for deliberations and grading; however, the maximum duration for large groups is two hours, and the maximum duration of an individual examination is 30 minutes.

Abstract: An abstract must be included with the project. The abstract must consist of no less than one page and must not exceed two pages. The abstract is included in the overall evaluation of the project.

Any re-examinations will be held in accordance with the above guidelines on the basis of a revised project report.
