BSc Project: Design of a Mechatronic System

2023/2024

Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The module is based on knowledge achieved in the project module Analysis of a mechatronic system or similar.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • Have knowledge about digital model-based design of a mechatronic system
  • Have knowledge about how the control design is a central and integrated part of the development process for a mechatronic system
  • Have knowledge about scientific methods and theories compared to the semester theme and be able to see the project in a larger whole

Skills

  • Be able to conduct synthesis and design of (fundamental) mechatronic systems and components and asses the applicability of different solution concepts
  • Be able to analyse the interactions and limitations of different technologies in the design process using digital calculation tools
  • Have acquired experience with experimental work, or real measured data series, supporting the design of a mechatronic system
  • Be able to analyse and assess obtained results from simulations and experiments via digital tools

Competences

  • Be able to handle complex and development-oriented situations related to studies and work within the energy technical area, with special emphasis on mechatronic systems
  • Have acquired the ability to professionally enter into interdisciplinary collaboration in the area of energy technology
  • Be able to identify own learning needs and structure learning in different environments in energy engineering
  • Be able to transform academic knowledge and skills in design of mechatronic systems to a practical problem and process the problem

Type of instruction

Problem based and project organised work in groups with focus on self-critical reflection and proactive participation. The project may be discipline-oriented, interdisciplinary or part of a multidisciplinary project depending on project choice.

Extent and expected workload

Since it is a 15 ECTS project work, the work load is expected to be 450 hours for the student.
