Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The project module provides knowledge and skills for planning and conducting a creative problem-solving project that can change and develop an existing practice in professional, organisational and/or digital media related contexts. Changes both trough and of visual and digital communication and of art pedagogical and cultural practice. The content focusses on analysis and design of meaning-making activities in different contexts and interactions. The module comprises also planning, conducting and communication of the project results to a broader audience like a conference, an event, an exhibition or an artefact. First part of the module is taking place as a five-days mandatory symposium on one campus.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

Through the module, the student must gain knowledge and understanding of:

  • Theories about communicational and art-based change and interventions
  • Methods for analysis and evaluation of communicational and art-based change and interventions
  • Professional and scientifically practice and issues within the chosen topic  

Skills

The student must through the module acquire skills in:

  • Planning, conducting, and evaluating independent project with external stakeholders
  • Applying and reconfiguring concepts and methods from visual communication and art education in project-orientated work
  • Communicating the outcomes of problem-based project work to external stakeholders and non-academic audiences

Competences

The student must through the module acquire competences for:

  • Working with project-based and problem-orientated mindset when applying knowledges and skills from visual communication and art education in professional, institutional, organizational and/or digital media contexts
  • Initiating and leading an independent project of relevance for chosen topic
  • Utilizing creative, critical, and novel approaches in project-based work and problem-solving

Type of instruction

The first part of the module takes place as a mandatory five-days symposia on a campus.

Oral exam based on a project
The examination is a conversation between the student(s) and the examiner and internal examiner based on a project report produced individually or in a group. The project report/written work will be considered the shared responsibility of the group. Students will be examined and assessed on the basis of the entire project report, and one combined grade will be awarded each student for the project report and the oral performance.

In order to be eligible for the exam, the student must have attended the mandatory five-day symposium.

Prerequisite for enrollment for the reexamination:
If the student has not attended the symposium, the student must write a paper relating to the academic area of the symposium to be approved by the course lecturer in order to gain eligibility.
