Recommended prerequisite for participation in the module

The module builds on knowledge obtained by the modules on the 1st semester.

Objectives: Students who have completed the module meet the following criteria concerning at least one central area within Mathematics-Economics.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • have expert understanding of relevant theories and methods within either quantitative finance and computational statistics or have gained in-depth knowledge of the operations of supply chains / complex networks and the behavior of these

  • are able to understand and on a scientific basis reflect on these subject areas’ scientific issues

  • The knowledge could be gained in a development project (but is not confined to this): with one or more companies or public organisations or in a lab environment concerning supply chain software or techniques

Skills

  • is able to identify, formulate and analyse a scientific problem independently, systematically and critically

  • is able to relate the problem to either a quantitative finance subject area or a supply chain operations subject area using for example data mining, including explaining the choices that have been made in connection to the delimitation of the problem

  • is able to independently make and justify the choice of theories and methods

  • is able to communicate research-based knowledge and discuss the professional and scientific problems with other people both within mathematics and economics

Competences

  • is able to control work and development situations which are complex, unpredictable and require new models within quantitative finance and computational statistics or operations research

  • is able to initiate and complete collaborations, and if relevant also interdisciplinary collaborations, as well as assume professional responsibility

  • is able to independently assume responsibility for own professional development and specialisation

Type of instruction

Projekt work including PBL elements.

Extent and expected workload

This is a 15 ECTS project module and the work load is expected to be 450 hours for the student.
