Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

The purpose of this module is to make the student able to communicate scientific problems in writing and orally to specialist and non-specialist, based on a selected engineering problem in one of the core topics of the master program. This is obtained by requiring that the student prepare a scientific paper in which he/she formulate and explain scientific hypotheses and results achieved through scientific work. The main contribution and conclusion of the work must then be summarized in a scientific poster and presented orally in terms of a 15 minute conference presentation.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The student should have knowledge about:

  • The scientific communication processes related to conference presentations and related to publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • How to organize a scientific publication
  • Details of an engineering problem in one of the core topics of the master program

Skills

  • Can explain the process of and criteria for peer reviewed scientific communication
  • Can identify new results from analyzing a selected engineering problem and contextualize these in relation to state of the art in the field
  • Can disseminate the outcome of analyzing a selected engineering problem in the form of a scientific conference/journal, poster and oral presentation

Competences

  • Must be able to analyze a selected engineering problem in one of the core topics of the master program to identify new knowledge and/or solutions, and to disseminate the result in scientific form
