PURPOSE
The module aims to provide the student with knowledge of design principles and guidelines for functional design, including knowledge of gestalt laws, knowledge of human cognition, such as human memory and perception, the importance of cognition for the use of IT systems. The course also provides knowledge of principles and guidelines for graphic design as well as tool support for its design. In addition, prototyping is introduced as a technique in an interaction process, where the student becomes able to design a user interface, where functional and graphic design principles and guidelines are utilized.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • must acquire knowledge of design principles and guidelines for functional design of IT systems, e.g. gestalt laws and their relation to user interfaces, human cognition, attention, perception and memory

  • must acquire knowledge of design principles and guidelines for graphic design of IT systems

  • must gain knowledge of different types of prototypes - for example Hi-Fi or Lo-Fi prototypes

  • must know the roles of prototypes in an interaction design process

Skills

  • must be able to explain and apply key design principles and guidelines for functional design

  • must be able to explain and apply key design principles and guidelines for graphic design

  • must be able to carry out a prototyping process with focus on functional and graphic design of the user interface

Competences

  • must be able to argue for choice of functional and graphic design in an interaction design process based on prototyping

Type of instruction

The teaching is organized in accordance with the general teaching methods for the education, cf. section 17.
