Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

Prior to this module, the student will have acquired basic insight into scientific theory. The module therefore increases the level of complexity from basic to advanced, and the student is taught more and more in-depth science theoretical concepts and paradigms at an advanced level.
The module focuses on how science theory influences the exploration and handling of scientific issues in practice, including a focus on the relationship between paradigm choice, study design and specific study methods.
The module also includes an introduction to the ethical dimensions of working scientifically in practice within business economics.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary knowledge on:

  • science theoretical concepts and science paradigms at an advanced level.
  • the relationship between science theory, study design and methods.
  • relevant ethical dimensions of working scientifically in practice with business economics

Skills

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary skills in:

  • identifying and articulate a business economic issue within the theme of the module.
  • selecting and argueing in favour of a relevant project design on an advanced science theoretical basis, including considerations about and justifications for method approach and the involvement of theory and/or empirics.
  • and is able to reflect upon how the selected science theoretical starting point has an impact on the project work and its result from problem formulation over discussion to conclusion.

Competences

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary competences in:

  • designing systematic methodical approaches for testing and handling of key business economic issues.
  • uniting theory and practice academically with a view to testing and handling key business economic issues.
  • at an advanced level evaluating and argueing in favour of a scientific foundation with a view to developing new knowledge.
