Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

Strategy is a key theme for all organisations. Strategy is about analysing, formulating, making choices and implementing the choices that the organisation decides to pursue.


Strategy is about integrating other disciplines such as marketing, organisation, finance and operations management. The objective of the module is 1) to introduce the student to the basic theories and models concerning strategy and 2) to give the student an understanding of the way in which these theories and models may be applied. This includes three main areas: strategic position, strategic choices and strategy in action, thus providing a basic introduction to the strategy theory.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary knowledge on:

  • key theoretical approaches to strategy.
  • theoretical and practical benefits and limitations when applying various theoretical perspectives, methods and approaches to a key issue within strategy and being able to reflect on these.

Skills

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary skills in:

  • selecting relevant and key methods to study strategy, theoretically and practically.
  • selecting and apply relevant methods and tools to generate knowledge and analyse a key issue within strategy.

Competences

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary competences in:

  • applying a problem-oriented approach to key issues within strategy.
  • uniting theory and practice in an academic manner within a key issue in relation to strategy.

Prerequisite for enrollment for the exam

  • A prerequisite for participating in the exam is that the student has participated actively in developing written material during the module.
