The module comprises a project course and a take-home exam.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The student must attain

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • the culture and conventions of academic writing appropriate for entry into master’s level work in English in the international studies area.  

Skills

The student must attain

Skills in:

  • designing and producing thematically and conceptually clear sections for academic works, such as a thesis or extended essay 
  • developing research projects with appropriate scope, and formulating well-designed research questions.

Competences

The student must attain

Competencies in:

  • designing and producing academic texts and analyses at a level appropriate for entry into master's level work in English in the international studies area.

The examination is an individual take-home assignment; the content of the assignment must demonstrate that the student has achieved the above-mentioned learning objectives. The exact content of the assignment will be determined by the course instructor at the start of the semester.

Any re-examinations will be held in accordance with the above guidelines on the basis of a revised assignment paper.
