The module includes a relevant coursework as well as an examination based on active participation.
Learning objectives
Knowledge
The student must attain
Knowledge and understanding of:
- the theoretical foundation of Problem-based Learning (PBL)
- problems associated with group work, especially in multicultural settings
- concepts of PBL as they pertain to international political and cultural issues
- issues concerning the use of theory and structuring projects in PBL work.
Skills
The student must attain
Skills in:
identifying and formulating a relevant problem within International Studies
collecting and applying relevant material in relation to a defined problem
engaging in academic and professional cooperation on solving a defined problem
using digital platforms for collaborative academic work as well as data collection and analysis
presenting and discussing problems within the area of International Studies in appropriate academic language.
Competences
The student must attain
Competencies in:
- defining problems relevant to the International studies field
- developing independent research perspectives
- communicating about PBL goals in multicultural group settings
- planning and completing a PBL research process from project idea to final product.

Individual exam.
In order to pass the module, active participation in a number of course activities relevant to the module is required; these will be determined the start of the semester. Active participation is defined as reading set literature, attendance in 80 percent of the teaching activities offered, and completion of any written assignments related to the module. Any re-examination will be a written, individual take-home assignment set by the course instructor. The assignment paper must comprise a minimum of six pages and a maximum of eight pages. The assignment paper will be evaluated by the examiner. |
