Learning objectives

Knowledge

The student must attain

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • a selected topic within the field of intercultural studies on the basis of a written projectThe topic will derive from the project courses of the semester.

Skills

The student must attain

Skills in:

  • independently identifying and delimiting a salient  problem in contemporary intercultural relations
  • analyzing and assessing relevant theories of intercultural communication, global cultural flows, and global cultural relations
  • addressing the significance of important problems in intercultural relations
  • organizing relevant data and research material in a manner appropriate to the completion of the middle year of bachelor study  and the topic in question to address significant issues in intercultural relations.
 

Competences

The student must attain

Competencies in:

  • integrating individual and group interests and reflecting on group considerations and concerns in the course of addressing problems in intercultural relations
  • discussing solutions to problems in international relations
  • identifying, reflecting on and qualifying choices of relevant theories and academic disciplines for addressing a defined problem within global intercultural relations
  • communicating ideas, arguments, and research results about a defined issue concerning intercultural studies in a well-formulated academic spoken and written English.

Exam

Prerequisite for enrollment for the exam

  • To participate in the project exam, it is required that the portfolios from the modules the ‘Cultural Globalization: Theories and Methods’ and ‘International and Intercultural Communication’ have been submitted for assessment.

Oral exam based on a project
An oral examination based on the students’ written work, whether prepared individually or in cooperation with others. The group will be jointly responsible for the project report or other written work undertaken jointly. The project report constitutes the basis for the examination and assessment, and an overall assessment of the project and the oral performance will be made.

At oral group examinations, the examination must be conducted in such a way that individual assessment of each individual student’s performance is ensured, cf. the Examination Order, section 4, subsection 2.

The examination will take the form of a conversation between the student(s), the examiner and the censor on the basis of the project report written by the student(s); the project report must not exceed 15 pages per student for group projects and 20 pages for individual projects.

During the examination, the student(s) must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and competencies in accordance with the learning objectives of the module.

The prescribed examination duration is 20 minutes per student and 10 minutes per group for deliberations and grading; however, the maximum duration for large groups is two hours, and the maximum duration of an individual examination is 30 minutes.

Any re-examinations will be held in accordance with the above guidelines on the basis of a revised project report.
