Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

This module comprises courses within the three academic profiles (section 5, subsection 2) within which globalization has rendered readjustment and understanding of modern communication processes between and across cultures distinctly relevant. Students are free to choose a profile within which courses are offered. All lectures pertain to global processes addressing international and/or intercultural aspects. The module comprises lectures and seminars that include exercises and student contributions.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • Global, intercultural and international processes within these academic profiles and relevant theory pertaining to it, based on the highest level of research within these academic profiles
  • Relevant cultural, social, political and economic developments, and trends in the study of these academic profiles
  • Reflection on various approaches to the study of international and/or intercultural issues within these academic profiles.

Skills

  • the critical assessment, selection and application of relevant theories and methods to the study of intercultural/international issues pertaining to the chosen academic profile in a globalisation context
  • communication of the chosen issue and the methodology for its analysis
  • structuring a delimited and coherent professional academic presentation.

Competences

  • the delineation and analysis of a complex problem in a way that is independent and methodologically sound
  • academic reflection on a scientific basis
  • producing an oral presentation of academic material in a clear, balanced and targeted manner
  • continuation of personal academic development, employability and specialisation within the selected academic profile
  • interpersonal collaboration and communication.

The examination is completed by satisfactory and active participation in the module, i.e. a minimum of 80% attendance and contribution to discussion sessions of the profile course through oral presentation individually or in groups and completion of set tasks.

Re-examination: 2-day take-home assignment given by the examiner on the basis of the objectives for the module. The assignment response paper must not exceed 10 pages.
