Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

This module comprises a course that includes workshops within method application relating to the subject areas and disciplinary profiles of the program. The module is also designed to support students’ employability.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • Applied methods within the central disciplines and elective profiles of the programme
  • Reflection on these on a scientific basis
  • links between own learning, methods, tools acquired and transference to relevant professions.

Skills

  • designing research strategies in relation to concrete problems in a methodologically conscious manner
  • critically assessing and selecting among the methods and research strategies of the subject area
  • setting up new models for analysis and problem solving according to problem analysis
  • transferring knowledge of methodological considerations concerning specific international and/or intercultural issues to relevant professions.

Competences

  • translating knowledge of methods and research design into concrete tools of problem analysis within the central disciplines and elective profiles of the programme
  • translating own learning, methods and tools acquired into concrete tools useful for relevant professions
  • assuming independent responsibility for personal learning.

The examination is a portfolio comprising contributions from the students set by the examiner on the basis of the course module. During the course, students will be expected to work on improving their assignment before final submission.

The examination portfolio will be prepared individually by the student and must not exceed 10 pages. The assignment paper will be evaluated by an internal examiner.

Re-examination is a 2-day take-home assignment given by the examiner on the basis of the curriculum for the module in Applied methods. The assignment response paper must not exceed 10 pages. The assignment paper will be evaluated by an internal examiner.
