Learning objectives
Knowledge
- Have knowledge about state-space modelling and formulation of
systems in state-space form
- Have knowledge about canonical forms and consistency with
transfer functions
- Have knowledge about a system's behavior and stability in
relation to the system's eigenvalues
- Have knowledge about controllability and observability
- Have knowledge about pole placement and observer design
- Have knowledge about discretization (sampling) and
reconstruction of continuous time signals
- Have knowledge about methods for analysing discrete time
signals and systems (Z transformation)
- Have knowledge about methods for design of digital
controllers
- Have knowledge about methods for discretisation of continuous
time controllers
Skills
- Be able to model continuous time linear dynamic systems in
state-space form
- Be able to solve state-space equation and be able to analyse
system's response and stability based on a state-space
model
- Be able to design both state-space controller and state-space
observer for continuous time systems
- Be able to model and analyse discrete-time systems in both open
and closed-loop
- Be able to choose sampling time
- Be able to set performance requirements for a closed-loop
system and be able to select the controller structure
- Be able to design digital controller directly in the
z-domain
- Be able to use methods for discretizing continuous time
regulators and be able to assess the usefulness of the results
- Have an understanding of the practical implementation of
digital controllers

- Be able to handle developments in connection with state-space
and digital control
- Participate independently in professional and interdisciplinary
collaboration with a professional approach for state-space and
