Content, progress and pedagogy of the module

This module is an advanced module in quantitative methods and data analysis for international business students. The purpose of this module is to provide the student with an advanced knowledge, skills and competencies in quantitative research methods needed for designing and implementing quantitative research methods to examine relevant problems within international business.

In the module, the student is provided with advanced insights into key issues in quantitative research, including issues related to quantitative methodology and research design, foundations of quantitative analysis, and questionnaire design and psychometrics.

During this module, the student will be introduced to a range of advanced quantitative research methods and techniques (e.g. structural equation modelling, multilevel modelling, time series analysis). The student is expected to acquire qualifications in using a variety of quantitative methodologies to create business knowledge to solve relevant international business problems.

Learning objectives

Knowledge

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary knowledge on:

  • basic ideas behind quantitative research in international business research, including the limitations and strengths of quantitative methods in relation to international business problems.
  • commonly used quantitative methodologies in international business research.
  • current debates in quantitative international business research.

Skills

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary skills in:

  • defining and explaining various design considerations in quantitative research and compare different approaches to quantitative research.
  • critically reflecting on the advantages and disadvantages of different quantitative research methods.
  • selecting relevant quantitative research methods to examine relevant problems within international business.

Competences

The objective is that the student after the module possesses the necessary competences in:

  • designing their own quantitative research project to examine central problems within international business and select the most appropriate research design and methods to fit the research question.
  • handling large amounts of quantitative data using statistical software to develop scientific insights on international business related problems and deliver scientific analyses timely and in concordance with the assigned resources.
  • interpreting and evaluating reports of quantitative studies.
