Learning objectives


Have an understanding of

  • Time series and discrete systems
  • Difference equations
  • Linear time-invariant (LTI) systems
  • Eigenfunctions of LTI systems
  • Frequency response of LTI systems
  • Discrete-time Fourier transform (DTFT) and its properties
  • Discrete Fourier transform (DFT and FFT) and its properties
  • Sampling, aliasing, signal reconstruction, ADC, DAC
  • z-transform and its properties, inverse z-transform
  • Convolution
  • LTI systems with generalized linear phase
  • Minimum phase systems


  • Be able to use the above mentioned mathematical methods to design linear time-invariant (LTI) systems for spectral analysis of real signals.
