This on-line course explores the interrelationship of social and cultural issues, pedagogy, and the construction of democratic spaces of learning. Students will read articles then reflect on the content with their thoughts, ideas, connections, and questions. The on-line and Moodle discussion, will focus on critical analysis and promote a complex investigation and questioning of important concepts and theories related to contemporary issues.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to have knowledge of:
the interrelationship of social and cultural issues, curriculum content,
philosophies of teaching, and the construction of democratic spaces of learning
social and cultural systems, and how artists and cultural workers articulate different symbolic-representational-material practices.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to have skills in:
reflecting upon how the construction of their social, political, and cultural
identity informs their individual perspectives and philosophies of education
address issues of justice and social change in relation to systems of oppression and the production of knowledge.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to have competences in:
describing, analyzing, and integrating social and cultural issues informed by current theories of art, art education, and critical/cultural studies
applying current theories of critical/cultural studies to diverse populations.
