Learning objectives

Knowledge

  • pragmatic, sociolinguistic, conversation analytical and discourse analytical methods as regards the English language
  • discourse analytic methods and theories as regards the English language.

Skills

  • analyzing and understanding spoken and written communication in everyday use and in organizations and the media
  • analyzing and understanding the social and cultural varieties of the English language.

Competences

  • working with relevant theories and methods for analyzing complex discursive issues pertaining to the English language
  • communicating ideas, arguments and research results concerning complex discursive issues within the English language in a well-argued and articulate academic spoken and written language.

The examination is an exam portfolio; the content of the portfolio must demonstrate that the student has achieved the above-mentioned learning objectives that the student has achieved the above-mentioned learning objectives and has participated actively in course activities. The requirements for the contents of the portfolio will be determined by the course instructor at the start of the semester.
The assignment paper will be evaluated by the examiner.
Any re-examinations will be held in accordance with the above guidelines on the basis of a revised exam portfolio.
